TM6 vs. TM7: Accessory Compatibility and What Has Changed
The Thermomix TM7 is here – and one of the first questions TM6 owners almost always ask is: "Can I simply continue using my existing accessories?" A justified question, because those who have accumulated a decent collection of lids, mats and attachments over the years don't want to start from scratch. This article gives you a clear overview of TM6 TM7 compatibility for accessories – what fits, what doesn't, and where you need to be careful.
What did Vorwerk actually change on the TM7?
Before we take a detailed look at the accessories, it's worth taking a quick look at the key technical differences between TM6 and TM7. Because compatibility depends directly on how much the housing, mixing bowl and connections have changed.
The TM7 features a redesigned housing with a significantly larger touchscreen, new sensors and improved connectivity. The most obvious change at first glance: the display now takes up the entire front. The footprint is also slightly wider than the TM6. Internally, Vorwerk has refined the motor and heating technology.
The mixing bowl itself – the heart of the device – has retained its basic shape. That's the good news. Because many accessories work on that very spot.
TM6 TM7 Compatibility: What Still Fits?
Mixing Bowl Lids and Splash Guards
The mixing bowl lid from the TM6 does not fit on the TM7. Vorwerk has slightly adapted the shape and closure mechanism here. So if you've been using a silicone lid from Mixcover for the TM6 – for example as an everyday replacement lid – you'll need the corresponding TM7 version for the TM7.
At Mixcover, the silicone lids are available model-specifically. This may sound like extra effort at first, but it also means: The lids really fit perfectly because they're tailored to each individual device – no wobbling, no poor fit.
Whisk, Butterfly and Cooking Basket
The situation is pleasing here: The butterfly (whisk attachment) and the cooking basket from the TM6 are compatible with the TM7. Both parts fit onto the knife shaft in the mixing bowl or hang in the pot – and the mechanics haven't changed.
This means: If you already have spare cooking baskets or a second butterfly whisk, you can keep them.
Varoma
The Varoma from the TM6 does not fit on the TM7 mixing bowl according to current information. The dimensions of the bowl opening have changed so much that the attachment no longer sits securely and seals properly. Vorwerk offers a dedicated TM7 Varoma – and here too, it's recommended to use only matching parts so that steam and heat are directed correctly.
Silicone Accessories in General
Silicone products that are attached directly to the device – such as silicone mats under the device, splash guard attachments for the lid, or protective caps for the mixing bowl – are generally model-specific. The reason: Even small shape differences between TM6 and TM7 can cause an accessory to no longer fit correctly or to no longer function properly.
Mixcover clearly labels all products by model. In the shop you'll always find directly whether an item is suitable for TM6, TM7 or both models.
What Specifically Improved in TM7 Accessories?
New Lid Design
The new TM7 lid from Mixcover was developed from the ground up specifically for the model. The silicone sits snugly on the bowl rim, the steam outlet is precisely engineered and the material is, as always, BPA-free and food-safe. If you already know a Mixcover lid from the TM6, you know: this quality really makes a difference in everyday life – no hot steam on your hand, no condensation water on the work surface.
Silicone Mat for the TM7
One of the most frequently requested additions is the silicone mat that sits under the device and protects it from scratches and slipping. Here too, the changed dimensions of the TM7 housing have resulted in a new version. The Mixcover mat for the TM7 is precisely fitted to the new housing – a small detail with a big impact, especially on sensitive work surfaces.
